THE OCR BUDDY CHANGELOG

Small changes.
Fewer steps.

A record of what was added, changed and removed. Built around the way you capture and use text.

Long results stay inside their box.

Fixed a layout regression in 2.6.0 that let long results overlap the New capture and Copy buttons. Text, code, tables and formulas now keep their full height within the scrolling result section.

Your everyday capture tools, closer.

This update brings quick actions to the top of the panel, makes saved captures easier to reuse, and adds local PDF reading.

Added

  • Separate keyboard commands. Assign shortcuts for viewport and full-page captures in Chrome's extension shortcut settings. Your existing area-selection shortcut stays available.
  • Select an area from the toolbar icon. Enable it in Settings & shortcuts. The default still opens the panel.
  • Optional automatic copy. New results can go straight to your clipboard. Off by default, with clipboard write access requested only when enabled.
  • Multiple captures, one copy. Select items in History and copy or save their text together, oldest first, with a separator between captures.
  • Open a PDF locally. Read all pages or a page range without scrolling. Extract existing text, OCR scanned pages, or choose OCR for every page. Processing can be cancelled.
  • These release notes. A bundled copy opens after a version update and stays available through What's new in the panel.

Changed

  • A more direct panel. Area, Viewport and Full page are at the top, including after a result. History and settings sit at the bottom.
  • Safer page captures. Capture checks the intended tab, stops when its context changes, and attempts to restore the original scroll position on failure.
  • Clearer clipboard feedback. Failed writes show a message instead of claiming the text was copied.

Removed

  • The large decorative placeholder from the start screen. Existing OCR modes and saved captures are retained.

Your documents stay on your device. PDF reading and OCR run locally. This changelog loads no analytics, remote fonts or scripts. External links open only when you choose them.

PDF limits: 50 MB, 300 pages. For an embedded PDF, save it from its viewer and open the file here. Automatic access to every embedded viewer is not supported. Complex layouts and mixed text/image pages still need checking.

A clearer review prompt.

Refined the in-panel review prompt and added an earlier invitation to rate the extension.
